Growing up Vietnamese-Chinese American in a predominantly non-Asian neighborhood, I did not understand or appreciate the cultural roots that shaped my upbringing. In fact, I rejected that I was so different. It wasn’t until I met other people who looked like me, ate like me, and had parents with accents like mine, that I began to fall in love with the beauty of my heritage.
The launch of this dress, inspired by the distinct mandarin collar of the Chinese qipao and Vietnamese ao dai, fused with a short skirt and bell sleeves for a modern take, marks a special milestone not just in my career as a designer, but in my life too. Because this isn’t just a dress.
It’s me reclaiming all those years I felt so different.
It’s me saying thank you to my parents for the sacrifices they made.
It’s me appreciating the beauty of my culture and officially sharing it with you.

I’m crying so perfect! I’ve wanted an Asian inspired dress for years and I couldn’t wait to try on my new purchase. First, the fabric is silky to the touch. The dress has weigh because it’s lined but it’s not heavy or hot to wear. The side zipper is easily accessible under the arm below the button detail. The flair ruffles feminine and needed for this dress to not confuse it with a form fitted Asian bodycon traditional dress. I’m a 1X and I was worried about the neck opening size - it is so perfect not tight and feels sexy and elegant - OMG this dress is amazing. I’m going to buy the red dress as soon as I can put together my next POPFLEX haul :)
I love this dress! I bought one in pink before and just got the black one as well. It's beautifully made and relatively soft. I can't wait to wear them somewhere!
It's stretchy fabric and lace so it's quite comfortable too.
I love how it feels and look. However I couldn’t see myself wearing it daily.

I am so happy they restocked even though it took such a long time and it's past Lunar New Years but OH MY GOD this dress flattered me a lot more in-person than I expected to! The lace and cherry red colour is BEAUTIFUL and the fabric is very stretchy! As a Canadian-born Vietnamese woman who loves oriental designs/cherry red/mini dresses and skirts this dress holds dearly a special place in my heart. I was also worried the dress would be too long on me because I am 5'1 ft but nope as always POPFLEX's designs fit very well on a short body and are actually mini/not above knees! I love how POPFLEX clothing really FLATTERS your body, I hope to see Cassey release more oriental designs in the future!
For reference, I'm 5'4", 180 lbs, with a 44" bust and 35" waist, and I purchased the Black Mandarin Collar Festival Dress in 1X.
The first thing I noticed when I took it out of the shipping bag was how heavy it felt. After trying it on, I realized the skirt lining is made from a very stiff, heavy material that weighs the dress down. Because of this, the weight pulls on the delicate lace shoulders, causing the torso to sit much longer than it should and making the fit look off.
The three Chinese frog closures also felt underwhelming for the price. They're somewhat difficult to fasten and can be frustrating to reattach if they come undone. Another detail that surprised me was the use of silver hook-and-eye closures on a black dress. Black hardware would have blended in much better and looked more polished.
I opted out of purchasing the return protection because I don't think paying extra for an easier return process should be necessary. Fortunately, I know how to sew, so I'll be replacing the Chinese frog closures, swapping the silver hook-and-eyes for black ones, and replacing the heavy skirt lining with a lighter fabric to improve the fit and reduce the weight.
The overall design is beautiful, and I really wanted to love this dress, but the material and construction choices kept it from meeting my expectations. With a lighter lining and a few hardware improvements, it would be a much stronger piece.
I got the black one in medium. It came today and my sister and I were very eager to try it. On my first try, it looks great but I struggled to attached the hooks and knots on my own. I need a second person to help me. When my sister tried it, the stitches loosened and came off. So we’re short a hook and my sister also struggled to put it on herself. Regardless, it’s a beautiful dress but we must handle with more care.
I absolutely love the look and the design on the dress and it fits super well. The sleeves are super nice and the body really gives me an hourglass look. It is also super nice to put on with it having the side zipper. The only issues I had with it were one of the clasps falling out after a wash, but I fixed it with some fabric glue. Also, I do wish there were shorts that came with it as the skirt is a little on the shorter side, but I have my own shorts to wear with them so it wasn’t too big of an issue. Overall, I really love the dress and can’t wait to find more excuses to wear it out. The feel of it isn’t uncomfortable at all.
I got this dress for my big 50 bday and it did not disappoint. Stunning, turned heads and wore well. My only issue is lace snatches onto everything so be careful what jewels you wear. One of the eye hooks under my arm fell off after a night of salsa dancing but I can fix it.
I took this dress out to a concert and lunar new year festival. I thought it might be too short, but it was such a good fit. I’m 5’3” and 34C chest. Small fit well. Also, I’m happy it didn’t have shorts. It would been too hard to undress the whole thing. I just wore a separate short underneath it.
Just small tweak I recommend: the hook clasp is super challenging to put on. After two wear they fell off. I recommend maybe something else? Otherwise, love this dress! I received so many compliments 😍

This dress is so thoughtfully constructed and you can’t help but feel next level beautiful in it. The gorgeous neckline is a proud statement, celebrating Cassie’s Vietnamese heritage. The textiles (lace and lining) are all soft, stretchy, and comfortable. I appreciate that the light pads in the bust are removable. There was a bit more “poof” to the skirt than I was expecting, but it adds to the fabulous drama of the dress. At 5’7”, 140lbs, the Medium fit very well, but had the size Small been available, I would have sized down for a sleaker fit.

Who hate it? If you need bottom shorts— just add it by yourself (then I used pirouette scort it’s add more volume). It’s a real dress, like dress could be! The Chinese hooks are I-d-e-a-l bcs of ribbon!

I’m Filipino-American with Chinese roots. We would always follow Chinese New Year Traditions and superstitions. I fell in love with it as soon as it was announced that it will be released. My Chinese Zodiac is the Year of the Horse so I knew I had to get it. have been a big fan of Blogilates/Popflex for years. This dress exceeded my expectations. I love that I dont have to wear a bra, I love the bell sleeves, I love the twirl-ability, I love the open back. I love everything! My daughter loves every aspect of this dress - it's comfortable and beautiful!! She got the XXS and it is a little loose but makes it look effortless!
Sizing info: I'm 5'11", around a size 12/14 with 36C bust. I sized up to an XL because I was nervous the drop waist might accentuate my midsection, but I should have ordered my true Popflex size (Large).
Style info: The quality of the lace and overall dress design is truly stunning! Sleeve length is great for us tall gals, and the slight bell sleeve adds some whimsy :)
